By Jeremy "JD" Sheehan "BASIC RHYTHMS"
-----The basic rhythms below are all in the time signature of 4/4, which will be discussed in a future lesson.
There are 4 beats to each measure. Count the notes with their respective counts, covered in lesson 1. C= Hi-Hat Cymbal or Ride Cymbal S= Snare Drum B= Bass Drum
-----The following rhythm is a very common beat, with many variations. It is based on 8th note feel. It is commonly
used in the Rock, Pop, and Country styles of drumming. Placing the snare on the counts of "2" and "4" is referred to as the backbeat. Vary the rhythm by varying the bass drum pattern. Instead of just playing "1" and "3" on the bass, play "1", "3", and the "and of 3". -----This beat and its' variations are usually played at a mid-slow to mid-fast tempo. Remember, faster tempos require less notes on cymbals, slower tempos require more notes on cymbals. Hear the above rhythm ( 2 measures of beat )
-----The following rhythm is based on 16th feel. Good for Slow Rock, Disco or Dance. Again, vary the bass patterns.
Hear the above rhythm ( 2 measures of beat )
-----This rhythm is sometimes called Quarter Rock or Doubletime among other names. It is great for very fast tempos
